Graphs, Graphs, and More Graphs

Students 1 Comment »

Over the past month 2OL has been learning about all sorts of graphs. We’ve looked at line plots, bar graphs, pictographs, venn diagrams and others. Some of the key elements of graphs that we’ve discussed are titles, headings, labels, eye appeal and keys. The students have also explored  many different ways of collecting data.

Currently the kids are working in pairs on a data collection project. Each group came up with a question they wanted answered. They also decided who they wanted to answer this specific question. They chose classrooms from kindergarten all the way up to 8th grade. Off on their own, they went into different classrooms collecting data. Now they are in the process of creating graphs to show the information they collected. They truly enjoyed asking other kids from around the school questions like: “What’s your favorite Harry Potter movie?” or “Who is your favorite football player?”

I can’t wait to see the final outcomes!!  Below are some of the graphs we did together as a class. Can you tell who is the tallest student?

It was very fun becasue there was music and 2nd grade friends and there was snowmen and we could sit where ever we wanted. It felt like a wintery wonderland. We had a blast! Because there were puppets hanging from the ceiling. We sat with our friends. - Kelsey and Sophia

What Inspired Our Writing – Gabby, Kelsey and Ryan

Students No Comments »

I got inspired by Gabby because she said, “once my dad ate a fly” so I said once my cousin’s dad ate a booger. Once my cousin Sara said “look dad my booger.” Sara’s dad started to eat Sara’s booger and then he went away. Then Sara started to crying and then he said he was wrong. “My booger’s gone”, said Sara. – Kelsey
My Dad inspired me because once my dad ate a fly and once a woman ate a fly. Perhaps she will die, ok let’s get to the story. I went whale watching. After 3 or 4 hours we finally got off. My dad started the car and drove a while. He was talking and a fly flew in his mouth. – Gabby

I got inspired by Dogzill and made Catzilla. Dogzilla was about 6 rats having the first annual barbeque cook-off. And then they heard Dogzilla. And my book goes like this: they are having the first-annual barbecuee cook-off too and then they heard Catzilla. -Ryan

About Worms

Students 4 Comments »

Today we learned about worms. And yesterday we got red worms from seventh grade and I learned that they help trees, plants and all livings things grow. When worms eat the paper and it comes out the back of their body. That turns into healthy soil for us and other creatures. A worm only has a mouth. -Cooper
