Today we are working on how words are going lots of ways in  books and poems. Like in the poem “Slide” and in the book Once I Ate a Pie, especially Pocket. Here are 2 examples.

Dana’s Day of School

I learned that pumpkins can be very healthy for you even if you don’t like them. And I learned that in library when you play with clay you can make so many things just squeezing and twisting it.

And we had a celebration for October and everyone made pumpkin food and we read about pumpkins.

Learning about Soil

Today I learned about what to not put in and what to put in the compost bin. Apple, banana peel, orange peels, and bread crusts can be recycled into soil. Candy, brownies, lollipops and gum can’t  be recycled into soil.

Today I was learning about worms. They eat paper and cores from apples.  After they eat they go to the bathroom and make new soil.  It is called a casting.  When it rains they come up out of the ground because their home is flooded and crawl across the driveway.  I’m excited about what they with do in the classroom worm farm.  I can’t wait until Halloween.  I love chocolate.

We  have a new student in our classroom. Her name is Shaylen. We learned that worm poop is called castings and it has nutrients in it that are good for the soil. You still can’t eat it! We did an experiment and put food on a piece of paper and we let it dry over night for 2 or 3 days. We held it up to the light and if it’s glowing it has fat in it and if it’s not glowing it does not have fat in it. Salami and cheese have fat in them because they were glowing.

Today  I learned that cheese and salami have fat in them.  We did an experiment with five foods.  They were salami, cheese, marshmellow cake, carrots and apples.  We rubbed the food on a piece of paper and after two nights they were all dry.  We put the paper up to the window and the salami and cheese glowed.  I learned about math too.  I did a problem.

About Being Healthy

What We Learned Today 2 Comments »

To be healthy you have to eat tons of fruits and vegetables and vitamin C helps your skin heal. Vitamin A helps you see in the dark. There are 8 different kinds of Vitamin B. 70 percent of your body is water. Carbohydrates give you lots of energy. Sweets give you tons of energy too but lasts very short. When you breath you lose 2 cups of water. Running a marathon makes you lose 4 quarts of water.

Discovering Food

What We Learned Today 1 Comment »

On 2007, October 19th we smudged food on a piece of paper and are letting it dry over night. Then on Monday we will hold it up to the light to see what food had fat in it. We smeared a apple, and a carrot, and a marshmallow cake, cheese and some salami.

We learned about different foods  and every kind of animal or plant food has vitamins.

I learned a new game called LOTTO. It’s a game like BINGO. You share a board and you have to have the right words that the teacher calls. When your board is all covered you win and you have to say LOTTO.

We wrote about our learning habits and that wasn’t really easy.

Sometimes  a book has scary pages that you might not read because it might be too scary.
