Crazy Cookbook

Teachers, Uncategorized No Comments »

The kids have been working SO hard on their class cookbook. They have decided on all of the elements that should be part of the cookbook. They have also taken a ton of time studying a variety of cookbooks. The kids took what they learned from other cookbooks and used that information to create a class cookbook. They even worked in groups to create symbols for each of the five food groups. We made these symbols into actual stamps. They now plan on coding each recipe with a food group stamp.

Here are the stamps they have created. Can you guess what food group each symbol stands for?

What Inspired Our Writing – Gabby, Kelsey and Ryan

Students No Comments »

I got inspired by Gabby because she said, “once my dad ate a fly” so I said once my cousin’s dad ate a booger. Once my cousin Sara said “look dad my booger.” Sara’s dad started to eat Sara’s booger and then he went away. Then Sara started to crying and then he said he was wrong. “My booger’s gone”, said Sara. – Kelsey
My Dad inspired me because once my dad ate a fly and once a woman ate a fly. Perhaps she will die, ok let’s get to the story. I went whale watching. After 3 or 4 hours we finally got off. My dad started the car and drove a while. He was talking and a fly flew in his mouth. – Gabby

I got inspired by Dogzill and made Catzilla. Dogzilla was about 6 rats having the first annual barbeque cook-off. And then they heard Dogzilla. And my book goes like this: they are having the first-annual barbecuee cook-off too and then they heard Catzilla. -Ryan

Getting to Know Characters

Teachers No Comments »

The two main characters of our read aloud book Melvin Beederman The Revenge of the McNasty Brothers, have arrived in our classroom!

candace-1.jpgmelvin-1.jpgcandace-2.jpgmelvin-2.jpg

We’ve been talking about ways that readers get to know characters– we know what they look like (external characteristics) and we also get to know what they like, what they like to do, and what kind of person they are (internal characteristics.) In groups, students drew one of these two characters and listed the external characteristics on the outside of the picture, and the internal characteristics on the inside. They did a great job! We’ll continue to work on this in students’ independent reading.
